Baby Head Supports

The newborns have practically little or no control over their head movements as his or her neck muscles are not well-developed at this stage. As such, one has to be extremely careful while handling babies during this phase, which normally lasts till the infants are about six months of age. It's very slowly that babies learn to control their head movements. To make things easier for the baby and parents also, it suggested that they use head supports.

Baby head supports should be used for a newborn who's too young to be able to support his or her own head. Incase you are planning to buy one, it would not be very difficult to spot them in the market. But yes, these head support pillows come in varied varieties in order to cater to specific needs of the child. For example, there are baby head supports that can be fitted on car seats, strollers, used during nursing, etc.

Though infant head supports may come in varied shapes and sizes, all of them are soft and padded for providing maximum protection to the baby's head. Those that are meant to be installed on child car seats and strollers even sport Velcro straps. A particular variety of baby head support used in the rear-facing child car seats are doughnut-shaped and having a gel filled casing for added comfort.

Mothers often slouch over their babies during nursing them which becomes uncomfortable and painful over a long time. It is then that a nursing head rest pillow is used to support as well as position the baby's head. They serve to provide a comfortable nursing position and prevent the mother's back and arms from getting tired and sore. Most head support pillows for the baby are easily washable.
